'Good Times' Actress Who Portrayed Penny's (Janet Jackson's) Abusive Mom is Now 71-Years-Old

Chip Fields

Actress Chip Fields is best known for her role as Lynetta Gordon, the abusive biological mother of Penny Gordon Woods played by Janet Jackson in a four-part episode of the hit 1970s sitcom Good Times. Now she is 71 years old and looks amazing. Even more, in real life, she is also the mother of actress Kim Fields.

Chip made her acting debut in the 1974 movie Claudine. However, when the Good Times episodes aired in 1977, she played her role so well that young fans of the show were reportedly afraid of her when they would see her off-set. That same year, though, she portrayed an unmarried mother in the NBC soap opera Days of our Lives.

From 1978-1979, Chip starred in the short-lived series, The Amazing Spider-Man. In 1979, she appeared in an episode of What's Happening!! and made a recurring appearance on Good Times. In the 1980s, she could be seen on Hill Street Blues, T.J. Hooker, and alongside her daughter in Facts of Life.

In the 1990s, she appeared on Roc and again alongside her daughter in several episodes of Living Single.

Over the years, she has also starred in various Broadway productions and even once had a career in the music industry. In the 70s, she released two singles for Buddah Records based in New York City.
