Rose, Mary’s Friend From “227” Starred in “Sesame Street” at the Same Time For 12 Years

Alaina Reed Hall

Actress Alaina Reed Hall is perhaps best known for her role as Rose Holloway on the 1980s TV sitcom 227 for 5 seasons, but she initially starred on PBS' Sesame Street as Olivia Robinson for 12 years. In fact, at one point, she was filming both shows simultaneously and was flying back and forth from Los Angeles and New York City to meet the demands of the two production sets.

Born in Springfield, Ohio, Alaina, attended Kent State University in the mid-1960s where she began her pursuit as an actress. Later in the 1970s, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began performing on Broadway in New York City.

After her role on 227 began to take off, she left Sesame Street in 1988 because of her conflicting schedule. In 1990, when 227 ended, she began appearing in guest roles on various TV shows including Herman's Head and Blossom.

She also provided the voice for various animated characters on Where on Earth Is Carmen San Diego?, and appeared in several television films including Death Becomes Her in 1992, Cruel Intentions in 1999, and the 2007 independent feature  I'm Through with White Girls.

Sadly, in 2007, Alaina was diagnosed with breast cancer and died in 2009, in Santa Monica, California, at the young age of 63.
