Thelma and Penny From 'Good Times' Reunite at Essence Festival Almost 50 Years Later

Bern Nadette Stanis, the actress who played Thelma on Good Times is now 68 years old and is still beautiful as ever. She was spotted at this year's Essence Festival in New Orleans dancing and happily reuniting with her co-star, 56-year-old Janet Jackson who played young Penny when she was just 9 years old.

The two starred together in the hit sitcom almost 50 years ago which aired from 1974 to 1979. Bern Nadette played the role of Thelma Evans, the only daughter of Florida and James Evans Sr.

Janet, who only appeared in seasons 5 and 6 of the show, played the role of Penny, the adopted daughter of Willona Woods, a close friend and neighbor of the Evans family.

At the time, Janet Jackson, who began her acting career with her brothers in the 1976 variety show The Jacksons, had not even become a singer yet, and no one could have ever guessed that she would become as big of an artist as her big brother, Michael.

Although it can be said that Janet became enjoyed a lot more success than anyone else on the show, she has always remained humble about it and has definitely not forgotten her roots.
