Six Flags Appoints First Black Female to Lead a Theme Park as General Manager

Sharon Parker, General Manager of Six Flags Over Texas

Sharon Parker has been appointed as the General Manager of Six Flags Over Texas Theme Park in Arlington, Texas, making her the first-ever Black female to hold this position at any of the company's theme parks in its 60-year history.

"Being the first Black female in this role is something I do not take lightly -- and my hope is that my experience has paved the way for future minority leaders. As we continue to focus on park enhancements, our priority will be providing an amazing guest experience this season and beyond," she said about her appointment, according to Dallas News.

Sharon has nearly 15 years of experience within the theme park industry as she has been with Six Flags Entertainment Corp. since 2007. She served as the Communications Manager for 15 years and then Marketing Director for nearly 2 years at Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor.

Prior to that, she worked as an on-air news anchor for station KWTX, where she also made history as the first Black female to become the main anchor for its evening newscast.

Now as a new Six Flags general manager, Sharon will be leading and overseeing the operations of the theme park amidst the many transformations and addition of new rides and attractions.
